Marcus currently is Founder and Partner of his firm, The Switzer Consulting group. He most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations to the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. In this role, Marcus managed the principal operations for the Secretary and directed strategic guidance on the Secretary’s and the 57,000-person Department’s priorities related to external stakeholder engagement, wealth creation strategies, as well as internal process and systems implementation to increase efficacy and efficiency of an agency with a $140bn budget. Prior to US DOT, Marcus served as Deputy Chief of Protocol of the United States at the U.S. Department of State. In this role, Marcus oversaw the Ceremonials, Diplomatic Affairs, Diplomatic Partnerships, and Major Events Divisions as they related to engagement with chiefs of state, heads of government, and other international dignitaries meeting with the President, Vice President, or Secretary of State. Before joining the administration, Marcus ran the development operation for the Biden-Harris 2020 Transition team where he and his team raised $22.1m – more than any other previous presidential transition effort.

Marcus previously served as Executive Director of Mayor Pete Buttigieg's Win the Era organization where he led the transition of the Pete for America presidential campaign to a federal leadership PAC and 501(c)4 organization. Marcus was a Senior Advisor to Mayor Pete's exploratory committee and 2020 presidential campaign where he created and implemented the development plan that raised over $100m for his presidential run. Marcus also worked with the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee, Mrs. Obama's When We All Vote effort, the Collective PAC, Collective Future and Lucy McBath's congressional campaign.

At Valor Equity Partners, as part of a two-person team, Marcus raised $1 billion for Valor Equity Partners’ fourth fund. He focused primarily on the Firm’s capital raise and client service functions. While at Valor, Marcus also developed and institutionalized self-sustaining communications and marketing strategies, including tech-enabled internal systems for streamlined outreach to investors.

Prior to joining Valor, Marcus was Deputy National Finance Director for the Hillary for America (“HFA”) presidential campaign where he managed the fundraising efforts for the 13 states that comprised the Midwest region and raised over $55m for the cycle. This included the planning and execution of over 120 principal events with Secretary Clinton, Senator Tim Kaine, Former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton.

Before joining HFA, Marcus served as Chief of Staff at Enduring Hydro/Cube Hydro Partners. There, he spearheaded special projects and sourced new opportunities to build, buy, and upgrade hydropower throughout the United States. He was instrumental to the early growth phase of the company and to securing a joint venture funding agreement that allowed for greater investment in hydro across the United States.

Marcus also held senior roles in President Obama's reelection campaign and within the Obama administration where he planned and executed over 45 principal events (including President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden), coordinating with the White House and Secret Service to implement the campaign regional and constituency fundraising program. He served as National Finance Director of the African American Leadership Council (“AALC”) at the Democratic National Committee and as the Deputy Director of the AALC and the Midwest region for the 2012 Obama-Biden campaign. He previously held positions in the White House Office of Management and Administration and at the National Economic Council.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marcus graduated with his B.A. in both Public Policy Studies and Psychology from Duke University.
